Central Medical Library

Borrowing

Only CMK members who have paid their membership dues may borrow CMK library materials free of charge. For more information, consult the library rules .

Materials may be ordered and borrowed on the first floor opposite the Dean's office.

Distribution of articles and the borrowing of journals

Articles ordered by users in person, by fax or by e-mail ( izposoja(at)mf.uni-lj.si) may be distributed in several ways:

  • borrowing of journals for use at home
  • photocopying of articles collected from the copy shop (EUR 0.06 per page for members, EUR 0.04 per page for University of Ljubljana students)
  • sending of photocopied articles by post (EUR 0.06 per page for members, EUR 0.04 per page for University of Ljubljana students)
  • sending of scanned articles by e-mail (EUR 0.10 per page)

All journals may be borrowed and used at home.

There is a uniform loan period for all journals of 6 working days, with the possibility of a further 6-day extension. For late returns, a fine of EUR 0.25 is applied per item per day.

Books

There is a uniform loan period for books of one month, with the possibility of a further one-month extension (unless the loan period has expired or the item has been reserved by another user). Extension is only possible prior to the expiry of the original loan period, otherwise the item must be returned. For late returns, a fine of EUR 0.25 is applied per item per day. A user may not have more than 15 books on loan at any one time.

Textbooks

The loan period for all textbooks is one month, with the possibility of a further one-off one-month extension (unless the loan period has expired or the item has been reserved by another user). For late returns, a fine of EUR 0.25 is applied per item per day.

Exceptions for Faculty of Medicine students:

  • the loan period for basic textbooks is 3 months, with the possibility of a one-off extension of one month
  • the loan period for supplementary textbooks is one month, with the possibility of a one-off extension of one month

All liabilities to the library must be settled before membership can be extended for the next academic year.

Upon the completion of studies, students receive a certificate from the library department stating that they have no outstanding liabilities to the CMK. A degree certificate will only be issued if the student has no such liabilities.

Fines for late return and notification of late return

A fine of EUR 0.25 is charged per item of material per day. Users may not borrow new material if they have not settled their liabilities to the CMK (fines for late return, unpaid photocopying accounts or non-payment of fees for articles from abroad). The debt may be settled at the loans desk or the copy shop. A user is charged EUR 0.47 for the first notification of late return, EUR 0.95 for the second notification, EUR 2.05 for the third notification, and EUR 3.15 for the last notification prior to action being taken against them to recover the material.

Checking of borrowed material and extension of the loan period

In the 'Moj Cobiss' column in the CMK computer catalogue, users may consult the list of items they have borrowed and the loan period, which may be extended. For this they require their membership card number and a password, which they obtain in person from the library loans department. Loan periods may also be extended in person, by telephone or by e-mail.

Extension applies from the day of extension and not from the original day of return . If you wish to retain an item for a longer period, we advise you to extend the loan period on the day on which you were originally supposed to return it.

Extension is not possible if the original loan period has expired or if the item has been reserved by another user.
