Enrollment in the 1st year at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Medicine: More candidates were admitted than the number of available spots

The University of Ljubljana’s Faculty of Medicine is in the final phase of the enrolment process for the first year of the Medicine and Dental Medicine degree programs. To date, 260 students have been enrolled in the first year of the Medicine program and 61 in the Dental Medicine program.

In September, the admission procedures for citizens of non-EU countries, graduates, and any candidates admitted at a later date will be completed. For the Medicine program, 240 spots were announced for Slovenians and citizens of European Union member states, with an additional 5 spots for Slovenians living in neighbouring countries and abroad. For the Dental Medicine program, 60 spots were allocated for Slovenians and citizens of European Union member states, and 2 spots for Slovenians living in neighbouring countries and abroad.

Why were more candidates admitted than the number of available spots?

The number of admitted candidates was already slightly higher than the number of available spots in the first round due to the close competition among candidates at the lower cutoff for admission. In the Medicine program, 10 candidates tied for the last available spot, so all candidates with the same number of points were admitted.

In subsequent application and admission procedures, the number of admitted candidates increased further due to candidates who were admitted later with recognized status as candidates with special needs and special status in the application and admission procedures, because some candidates’ appeals regarding their high school graduation exams were granted, and due to the admission of Slovenians living in neighbouring countries and around the world.

To date, 270 applicants for Medicine and 65 applicants for Dental Medicine have been admitted to the first year. Among them, 10 admitted applicants for Medicine and 4 for Dental Medicine submitted a withdrawal notice and did not enroll in the program.

The enrollment procedures have not yet been fully completed. In September, procedures are scheduled for the admission of applicants to spots reserved for graduates—5 spots for Medicine and 2 spots for Dental Medicine—as well as enrollment procedures for higher-year students based on transfer criteria. For Medicine, 5 spots are allocated for transfers, and for Dental Medicine, 2 spots.

Upon enrollment in the first year, we expect to receive further information regarding admitted foreign nationals, as well as any additional admissions of candidates who will take the high school graduation exam in two parts or whose appeals regarding the administration of the exam will be granted.

The final number of enrolled students will therefore be known after all enrollment procedures are completed in September.
