Visit by His Excellency the Ambassador of Greece to the University of Ljubljana Faculty of Medicine

On Thursday, July 2, 2026, the University of Ljubljana Faculty of Medicine hosted His Excellency Athanasios Kotsionis, the Ambassador of Greece to Slovenia, along with a delegation from the Greek Embassy in Ljubljana.

Representatives of the University of Ljubljana Faculty of Medicine welcomed the guests at the main entrance to the old Dean’s Office building on Vrazov Trg. This was followed by a short walk through the main entrance, past the construction site of the faculty’s new building in the inner courtyard, to the conference room on the first floor.

In the conference room, the guests were greeted by the Dean of the University of Ljubljana Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Ksenija Geršak. Also in attendance were Anja Milenković Kramer, M.A., Secretary General of the UL MF, Prof. Dr. Damjana Roman, Vice Dean for Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Janja Jan, Vice Dean for Dental Medicine, Prof. Dr. Miroslav Petrovec, Vice Dean for Specialist Fields of Healthcare, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sergej Pirkmajer, Vice Dean for International Relations and Doctoral Studies.

The delegation from the Embassy of Greece in Ljubljana consisted of Mr Athanasios Kotsionis, Ambassador of Greece to Slovenia; Mr Haris Papadakis, Deputy Head of Mission and Consul of Greece in Slovenia; and Ms Ioanna Dimitriou, Attaché.

The Greek ambassador presented the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ljubljana with three dictionaries of medical terminology, which make a significant contribution to the development of specialized medical terminology and to strengthening cooperation in the field of education. The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ljubljana, Prof. Dr. Ksenija Geršak, expressed her gratitude on behalf of the faculty for the donation of the dictionaries and for the visit, while Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sergej Pirkmajer thanked the ambassador for the support in teaching the course on medical terminology.

“It is a great honor and privilege for us to have been so warmly welcomed at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ljubljana. We highly value our existing collaboration in the field of Greek terminology and language, as well as in the area of student exchanges under the Erasmus program. Of course, we hope to explore even more areas in which we could collaborate in the future,” said Greek Ambassador Kotsionis after the meeting.

The visit concluded with an official photo session and a further exchange of views on opportunities for future cooperation.
