In the scope of the programme Interreg V-A Italy-Slovenia, a new project has begun with the title “Crossborder platform for efficient management of biobanks” and the acronym C3B.

The goal of the project “Crossborder platform for efficient management of biobanks” is the establishment of a platform for the management and standardization of biobank systems. The intention of the project is also to strengthen the collaboration between biobanks in two Italian regions, Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Veneto, and Slovenia. Partners on the Slovenian side include the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana, and Blood Transfusion Centre of Slovenia, and partners of the projects on the Italian side are the University of Trieste, the biobank in Venice, company Experteam from Venice and leading partner FIF (Fondazione Italiana Fegato) from Basovizza.

Biobanks, as a biorepository of biological material, receive, keep and distribute biological material and clinically relevant information for use in research and clinical studies. They are a crucial part for performing high-quality clinical studies and research, also in the area of personalized medicine. The focal point of the project is to conduct a survey of the conditions of biobanks, existing in the regions of partner institutions, to educate the personnel and to transfer good practice from the accredited systems of biobanks to the partner institutions in both countries, who will show interest.
