Genome of Europe White paper: genomic data in population health care

29. 7. 2025

The data from the Genome of Europe (GoE) project will help scientists in their research and also serve as a reference dataset to improve the treatment of patients in the future. This project is of clinical importance because it helps us to better understand the human genome — the complete set of our genetic information — and how it can vary from person to person. Thanks to this work, more people with inherited conditions will be able to receive clearer and more accurate diagnoses.

A White Paper, published last week briefly emphasises the importance and benefits of the Genome of Europe project and the role of genomic testing in healthcare. It describes the potential of an initiative such as 1+ Million Genomes to support disease prevention and contribute to more personalised approaches to treatment. It is aimed at citizens, but also at the professional public, health authorities and healthcare professionals.

This document is intended to inform all interested parties and support future discussions with policy makers and healthcare stakeholders on the value of genomic research and infrastructure in Europe.
