In line with the University of Ljubljana Faculty of Medicine’s development vision, the Vrazov trg Campus—which addresses the Faculty’s long-standing space constraints—is intended to house educational, clinical, and research infrastructure. The purpose of the new Vrazov trg I Campus building is to provide adequate spatial and infrastructural conditions for the implementation of educational programs and scientific research at a single location within the Vrazov trg Campus. Together with the existing infrastructure on site, the new building will provide educators, students, and researchers with high-quality, safe, and modern conditions for work, study, and research, as well as modern and technically adequate laboratory and other related spaces, which together will form a stimulating university environment and enable the realization of the UL MF’s development vision.
The new building, with a ground floor, three upper floors, and two underground levels, is located on the existing campus at Vrazov trg 2, in the immediate vicinity of the University Medical Center Ljubljana.
The following UL MF institutes will be located on the Vrazov trg Campus:
An important part of the new building will also be the Center for Clinical Skills Training (CUKV), and the Medical Research Center, together with the Medical Experimental Center, will play a special role on campus. It will be equipped with advanced research infrastructure to meet the needs of the institutes and will enable optimal shared use of state-of-the-art technologies and modern research equipment. This organizational structure will promote interdisciplinary collaboration and the integration of research and teaching activities.
The new building will also include shared educational infrastructure (SPI) and associated shared service and technical spaces (SSTP): a restaurant, three lecture halls (296 seats, 90 seats, and 60 seats), four seminar rooms (between 20 and 38 seats), twelve practice rooms, four study spaces for individual or group work by students, two conference halls for doctoral defenses, introductory lectures, etc. (16 seats, 25 seats), student locker rooms, storage rooms, archives, technical rooms, as well as an underground garage, bicycle storage, and a bomb shelter. These spaces will ensure the smooth operation of the campus and a better user experience for students, staff, and researchers.
The Vrazov trg Campus will enable the UL MF to implement modern study programs, develop cutting-edge research, and foster better integration with the healthcare community. The project represents a significant step toward the long-term enhancement of the quality of medical education and research in Slovenia.
The Vrazov trg Campus project is part of the broader development vision of the UL MF triple campus, which, in addition to the Vrazov trg Campus, also includes the Zaloška Campus and the Korytkova Campus. The new building on Vrazov trg will serve as the central hub for educational and research activities, set to open with the start of the 2026/27 academic year.
The project is primarily co-financed by the European Union under the Recovery and Resilience Plan and by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation. The campus will be designed as an open and accessible university space, integrated into the urban environment and intended for students, staff, and researchers.
