Institute of Anatomy

Research

The research group of the Institute of Anatomy is led by Prof. Dr. Erika Cvetko, DMD. The research work focused on skeletal muscle, fascia and neuromuscular diseases, regional anaesthesia, neurotoxicity of new forms of local anaesthetics, neurodegeneration and biomechanics for creating a numerical models of the human body is carried out within the framework of two research programmes funded by the Slovenian Research Agency (ARRS):

  1. Molecular mechanisms underlying development and function of the skeletal muscle (P3-0043)
  2. Modeling in technics and medicine (P2-0109)

The researchers of the Institute of Anatomy are also involved in the following research projects:

  1. Changes of neuro-musculo-fascial system in diabetes analyzed by 3D microscopy and biomechanic tests (N3-0256)

  2. Role of diffusion of local anaesthetics through tissue barriers in the mode of action of interfascial plane blocks and non-invasive transmucosal blocks (J3-50106)

  3. Development of novel diagnostic and therapeutic methods for carpal tunnel syndrome (J3-4507)

  4. Muscle secretome and bone cells - collaboration in osteosarcopenia (MiKOSA) (J3-4527)

The work at the Institute of Anatomy is organised in two laboratories, led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Nejc Umek, MD:

  1. Laboratory for the analysis of skeletal muscles
  2. Laboratory for research on donated bodies

The bibliography of the research group of the Institute of Anatomy is available on SICRIS.
