Research

The Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics consists of five laboratories:

1. Laboratory for Enzyme Research (head: Aljoša Bavec);
2. Pharmacogenetics Laboratory (head: Vita Dolžan);
3. Laboratory for Translational Molecular Endocrinology (head: Tea Lanišnik Rižner);
4. Laboratory for Extracellular Vesicle Research (head: Metka Lenassi);
5. Laboratory for Translational Medical Biochemistry (head: Katarina Trebušak Podkrajšek);

and two centres:

1. Medical Centre for Molecular Biology (head: Nataša Debeljak);
2. Centre for Functional Genomics and Bio-Chips (head: Damjana Rozman).

Research work is carried out within the framework of three program groups:

1. P1-0170 Molecular mechanisms of regulation of cellular processes in connection with some human diseases (head: Vita Dolžan);
2. P1-0390 Functional genomics and biotechnology for health (head: Damjana Rozman);
3. P3-0449 Translational molecular endocrinology for women's health (head: Tea Lanišnik Rižner)

In addition to the programs, the institute also has several national and international research projects lead by individual researchers.
